'It's not enough to save something - you've got to make it live.' Buildings and collections only have meaning through the people who enjoy them, learn from them and engage with them.
Our audience development work starts with the questions: Who do you want to reach, why do those audiences matter to you, and most importantly, why should you matter to them? We believe that good audience engagement needs clear thinking about how and where you can make the biggest impact, and evidence to support that thinking.
A strong Activity Plan is central deliverable for any National Heritage Lottery Funded project - it sets out your vision for audience engagement, and a practical action plan for how you will achieve it.
The Plan must demonstrate your vision and your voice, but it helps to have external expertise to shape and articulate it - and that's where we come in - as facilitators, authors and/or mentors.
Making an application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund is a project in itself. A lot of behind-the-scenes work needs to happen to inform a really good application and ensure your project design is strong from the outset.
We can help with project enquiries, R1 and R2 applications, and coordination of your Development Phase. We also offer mentoring and peer review services for all stages of the process.
Anna's experience as capital project manager for Cragg Management Services allowed her to oversee projects as varied as Lincoln Cathedral Connected, Charleston Centenary Project and Upminster Windmill. Anna's experience of delivering capital projects has informed her evaluation practice. Associates include architects and project managers, who can add value where needed.
Anna has a background in commercial management, including five years running the highly successful portfolio of shops at Tate Modern. This experience has informed more recent business planning work for galleries and heritage sites, as well as evaluation of organisational resilience and financial impact.
Trinity is a vibrant independent theatre and art centre in the heart of Tunbridge Wells. We were excited to work with the team on the concept of a community led production, to which all elements of the Activity Plan would speak - drawing out what heritage means to local people and how they can respond creatively to their local heritage.
Disability Pride provides a platform where disabled and non disabled people can come together and celebrate inclusion and diversity whilst also raising awareness of disability discrimination. Anna has helped the committee deliver a volunteer scheme funded by the People's Health Trust, which encourages collective control and stronger social connections.
Berwick Church features murals of international significance, which were in urgent need of restoration. Anna oversaw the development phase of the project, working with conservation architects and environmental specialists, and coordinated the successful NLHF Round 1 funding application, Activity Plan and Interpretation Plan. She was later appointed to evaluate the project
Anna and Wendy helped us put together a solid brief and associated Tender material which helped us appoint an exceptional design team for the Madeira Terrace project. Their knowledge and experience of briefing, process, long term consequences of early procurement decisions, and sector knowledge was invaluable. They added value to the process by acting as critical friends and we enjoyed a trusting and open working relationship. Successful projects are built on the sum of their parts, Wendy and Anna were key early stage ‘parts’
Abigail Hone, Project Manager
Anna's professional expertise has been invaluable to us in helping us progress our project. She has always been polite, unflappable, conscientious, competent and completely understanding of the needs of the disabled people with whom we work. I would have no hesitation in recommending her.
Every organisation needs an Anna!
Jenny Skelton, Chair, Disability Pride
